Howdy!  It has been much longer than I ever intended…I’m so sorry I haven’t updated sooner.

Our little guy is doing great.  He spent 8 days in the NICU at our local children’s hospital.  I’m so grateful for the amazing care he received there.  He received some extra breathing support and was treated for jaundice.  It was definitely easier having one of the “big kids” in the NICU.  After that, he was transferred to the special care nursery to feed and grow while we tried to get nursing down.  To make a really loooooong story short, I ended up exclusively pumping for months.  He’s been on formula full time for almost a month now.  When it got to the point that I was pumping 2 hours a day to come up with one bottle, it was obviously time to quit.  He’s still small–3rd percentile for weight, which makes him just around 14 lbs now that he’s almost 7 months.  We’ve had to deal with pretty significant eczema and cradle cap.  He recently spent a night in the hospital due to anaphylaxis from milk based formula and we now know he’s allergic to milk, peanuts, wheat and dogs.  Luckily they are testing at a lower level and the doc is hopeful he’ll grow out of it.  And it isn’t so severe that we need to get rid of the dog–thank God!  Sleeping was super-challenging for a really long time, but he’s now waking up just one or two times a night and getting some solid naps during the day.  There always seems to be some unexpected twist and we have to figure out what the right decision is at the time.  I’ve never been so exhausted and crabby towards my poor husband in my life, but it gets better.

But it is all awesome.  He’s busy rolling and smiling up a storm.  His giggles melt my heart.  I think of the other five babies and imagine them watching over their brother.   So without further adieu, here are some photos….

Right after he was born, at 4 lbs 13 oz

A couple of weekends ago around 6 months….it is amazing how quickly they go from this little blob that can’t focus or control their bodies to little people with expressions and opinions!

I’ll try to update here and there.  You were all such a life line and source of strength and hope.  I hope your journeys are bringing you much closer to your little ones!

Our little guy was born on Saturday at 12:43 am, which put him at 35 weeks and one day.  He was 4 lbs 13 oz and is getting some extra support with breathing in the NICU.  He seems to be doing well and the doc thought he’d stay 10-14 days in the hospital, but probably be transitioned out of NICU to a special care nursery.

He has loads of hair and looks like daddy.  I’m being discharged today, after five nights in the hospital, and have been really busy spending time with our boy, figuring out pumping, recuperating, and trying to learn more about his procedures and preemies.  There is a lot more I want to say about how we got to this point, but it may be awhile before I’ll get a chance to do that.

Thank you so much for all of your support and prayers throughout this journey.  I can’t express how much that means and what a difference it has made in my life.  Lots of love to all of you!
